Synopsis: When siblings Julian, Dick and Anne learn that they cannot go on their usual summer holiday trip to Polseath and they are invited to their unknown cousin Georgina's house to stay with her mother and father, who is a scientist. On their way to the island they see a shipwreck under the water and George explains how her great-great-great grandfather was travelling on it along with lots of other men. He was transporting gold from one country to another. George tells her cousins how divers have been down into the boat to try and find the gold but they haven't.
Character List:
Julian- Julian is the eldest of the five, cousin to George and elder brother to Dick and Anne. He is tall, strong and intelligent as well as caring, responsible and kind.
Dick- Dick has a cheeky sense of humour, but is also dependable and kind in nature. He is the same age as his cousin George, a year younger than his brother Julian and older than his sister Anne – eleven at the start of the series.
Gorge (Georgina)- George is atomby, demanding that people call her George, and she cuts her hair very short and dresses like a boy. She is headstrong and courageous by nature and, like her father, scientist Quentin Kirrin, has a hot and fiery temper.
Anne- Anne is the youngest in the group, and generally takes care of their domestic duties during the Five's various camping holidays. As the youngest, she is more likely than the others to become frightened and does not really enjoy the adventures as much as the others.

Aunt Fanny- Fanny is George's mother, and aunt to Dick, Julian and Anne. She is married to Uncle Quentin.
Uncle Quentin- Quentin is George's father, and a world-famous scientist, who is kidnapped or held hostage in several of the children's adventures. He possesses a quick temper and has little tolerance for the children on school holidays, but is nevertheless a loving and caring husband, father and uncle.
Scarlett Pimpernel creative writing task:
As I ride into Place de la Greve in a cart pulled by a horse with about 10 other people on it, I think about why we are doing this. Why are we chopping off people’s heads? I can’t think of anything. I cant deal with what I am about to witness. Riding into to Place de la Greve I can already smell the blood in the air. In some sort of way I can even taste the blood.
The first lot of aristos come out in a tumbril, the drums start to become louder and louder. I become more scared knowing that those people will die soon.
The people around me start to cheer as loud as they possibly can. I’m standing in the crowd and we are so close together I can feel everyone else’s bodies touching mine. I feel their cotton clothes rubbing up against my arm. We are so close to each other I can smell their sweat dripping off them. I can feel the humors rising through my body. I can almost feel it rising through everyone else’s bodies too.
I look around and see huge castle like building surrounding us. They are made of huge concrete slabs and big glass windows. There are flags hanging off a pole flowing in the wind. I quickly look back and see that they have already got a person in the guillotine. I couldn’t stand looking at people’s heads being chopped off. I don’t see how all of these other people are standing here watching this.
When the first head gets chopped off everyone starts cheering. I feel like I shouldn’t cheer but I have to. As soon as the first head hits the basket of hay I instantly smell blood. I start to vomit but quickly I swallow it. I really don’t like this smell but I have to deal with it. All of the sudden I hear one very loud man yelling “DEATH TO THE ARISTOS!” Everyone else cheers those exact words after he had finished. I can’t help to think how sorry I feel for them but I cant say anything about it because I might be executed myself.
Once it had finished I couldn’t get the images of people being executed. Blood everywhere. People cheering. Even the smell of blood was stuck in my nose for about 4 days after. I couldn’t stand it for any longer.
Interview (Georgina):
Why are you always so quiet and aways from everyone else?
Because I like being secluded and away from people. I find that if I am away from people I am focusing more on myself and all the other things around me. Where as if i am with other people I will focus more on them and not the scenery. Why do you want to be a boy so much?
Girls are way to annoying and girly for me. Girls are always telling other peoples secrets and I hate secrets so i choose not to be a girl. I am a pretty big tomboy so I like boys way more then girls. Do you like living next to the beach?
I love living next to the beach. almost everyday I go down to the beach and take some time to think on my own and watch the waves crash on the rocks. Are you happy that Julian, Dick and Anne are coming to see you?
I suppose I am pretty happy that they are coming to see me. But like i said before i like being on my own and if they annoy me too much I may have to go off on my own. Why do you like being called gorge?
I like it because like i said before i like being a boy. I also thought that gorge was a pretty cool boys name and it was pretty close to my real name georgina.
